B_Swails
NATIONAL CAPITAL AREA SALVATION ARMY TURNINGPOINT CENTER FOR WOMEN AND CHILDREN 1434 Harvard Street Northwest Washington, District of Columbia, 20001 The Turning Point Center for women and children seeks to break the cycle of chronic homelessness and joblessness for single mothers and their children. Families may stay up to two years in safe, furnished apartments while gaining the skills to become self-sufficient. The mothers are involved from the beginning in decision-making about their futures and must be enrolled in school or be employed while in the program. Services including case management, crisis intervention, individual and family counseling, advocacy, and independent living skills classes prepare them for the road ahead. YOU CAN HELP! Do you know of a religious group, social group, or individual who may be interested in volunteering/interning? • Interested participants are need to provide childcare services on Monday AND/OR Thursday evenings from 6pm until 8:30pm while our residents attend their weekly life-skills classes and enrichment sessions. • We are also recruiting volunteers to help us renovate the common areas shared by the children (play areas, art room, library, garden). Those who like home improvement/decorating are strongly encouraged to apply. The Salvation Army will provide all materials. ALL VOLUNTEERS WILL RECEIVE COMMUNITY SERVICE/CDA (IF APPLICABLE) HOURS AND PERIODIC INCENTIVES AWARDS FOR PARTICIPATION. CONTACT B.
