Guest Karen Graff
Faten presents the "Al Massraweya Gala Show: Authentic Soul of Egyptian Folkloric Dance." Native Egyptian world-renowned master instructor Faten who is currently based in Arlington, VA directs the “Al Massraweya Egyptian Folkloric Dance Group”. In her teens, Faten was selected to become a member of the Egyptian National Folkloric Troupe. The troupe toured all over the world including many cities in the US. Faten now teaches weekly Egyptian dance classes in Arlington and is invited to teach workshops worldwide. The mission of the Al Massraweya Egyptian Folkloric Dance Group is to educate through authentic Egyptian dance that celebrates the vibrant culture of the Egyptian people, and inspire through beautiful, thoughtful choreographies by Faten and soloists within the group and vibrant, joyful costuming all hand made by group members. Each year we put on an Egyptian Folkloric Dance show that includes a mix of group choreographies and solos from professional Middle Eastern dance artists within the troupe and invited guest artist. This year, our show will take place on Sunday March 3, 2013 @ Artisphere's Dome Theatre (1101 Wilson Boulevard Arlington, VA 22209). Doors open at 2pm, show starts at 3pm. Tickets: $25. Arlington VA at 2:00 pm with special guest artist Katalin Schafer from Hungary. Dance styles include: Saidi (Raqs Assaya), Fellahi, Ghawazee, Orientale, Lebanese Debke, Nubian, Haggalah and more. There will also be dazzling belly dance ("Raqs Sharqi") performances by troupe soloists and guest belly dance star and costume designer Katalin Schafer from Hungary on her first visit to the United States! We are currently in great need of volunteers the day of the show to assist with the box office, help with ushering and especially backstage. This would be a wonderful opportunity for a theatre major or high school student looking to supplement service learning hours.
