Luke_Wilbur
.CO Internet S.A.S is launching the new .CO domain name marketed to rival the .COM domain name. http://www.cointernet.co is withholding : Christmas.co Gift.co And other single word premium domain names? Is SEDO planning to bid them out at a later date? I use SEDO and got no communication about this. What happens to those individuals who are prepaying the $275.00 for a chance to get these premium domain names? I see nothing on the web site that explains this. Do you think this is fair for small businesses trying to get a chance at a good domain name? I personally think this gives an unfair competitive advantage to those organizations that you decide to invite.
Guest Jim from MA
WHO is cointernet.co? Can anybody "invent" a TLD? Isn't .co reserved for the country of Colombia or the state of Colorado? What if I want the TLD .Jim? Can I have it? If not, why not?
Luke_Wilbur
This is the response I just received. Dear Mr. Wilbur, While the .CO Registry does have a list of reserved names which will be auctioned in premium auctions over the coming months and years -- neither Christmas.co nor Gift.co are on that list. Both of these domain names are registered to third parties, and were likely registered during one of the early phases of the .CO Launch Plan, including Grandfathering or Sunrise A or B. The .CO Registry did not "invite" any of the parties to get Christmas.co or Gift.co, as you suggest --we are simply the registry of the domain names they secured on their own accord. To learn more about our domain name allocation rules, please visit our website at: http://www.cointerne...cies-procedures. Regarding fairness to small businesses and entrepreneurs, we are taking many steps to support these communities — including having given free domain names to many early adopters through the .CO Founders Program (see www.Opportunity.co for examples). There are millions of top names available on the .CO extension and the opportunities for small businesses and entrepreneurs to find high value names are substantial. Kind regards, and best wishes, Lori Anne I do not understand this neither Christmas.co nor Gift.co are on that list. Both of these domain names are registered to third parties, and were likely registered during one of the early phases of the .CO Launch Plan, including Grandfathering or Sunrise A or B. Luke_Wilbur
cointernet.co is an internet registry company representing the country of Columbia .co domain name. They are trying re-brand a country domain name into a commercial domain similar to .com
Luke_Wilbur
This is my latest response from Lori Anne Wardi. Luke, Please download the domain allocation rules i referenced in my prior email. It explains our step by step gradual allocation of domain names. Yes, the .co domain has existed inside of Colombia for nearly 20 years and many thousands of people owned domains with .com.co as the ending (because the country hadn’t yet opened up .CO by itself). All of those people had the right to convert their .com.co registrations to .co registrations before the rest of the world. Aftter that, trademark owners had priority to protect their trademarks. It is all described in our launch rules. And the process is audited and validated by the global consulting firm Deloitte for compliance with the rules. I hope that helps to explain! Have a great day! Luke_Wilbur
When I type the url for: http://www.gift.com.co/ I get the following: Your domain has expired and is now suspended. If you would like to restore it please contact your registrar. You have 30 days from the day of expiration to renew your domain and remove the suspension status. If you have any questions please contact us at +57-1-616-9961. and when I type http://www.christmas.com.co I get the following: Server not found Firefox can't find the server at www.christmas.com.co At this point it appears that no organization owns that name. So this rules out Grandfathering. Phase 1: Grandfathering Period during which only certain existing Registrants of (a) Third Level Name(s) are given the opportunity to register Domain Names identical to their existing Third Level Domain Name directly under the .CO TLD. It is not possible to register as a trademark a term that is generic for the goods/services. So this rules out Sunrise. Phase 2: Sunrise Sunrise “Local ( A )”: Period during which holders of eligible trademarks that have obtained registered status by the Colombian trademark office can apply for their corresponding Domain Name(s) directly under the .CO TLD, insofar these Domain Names have not been registered at an earlier stage. Sunrise “Global ( B ) Period during which holders of trademarks of national effect that have obtained a registered status in their respective country or region anywhere in the world can apply for their corresponding Domain Name(s) directly under the .CO TLD, insofar these Domain Names have not been registered at an earlier stage. http://www.cointerne...tration_1.4.pdf Edited July 9, 2010 by Luke_Wilbur
Guest Bilderberg
They are trying to give all the old money a chance to take over the domain searches. That is rotten to the core. I wonder if ".CO Internet S.A.S" is a Bilderberg organization. Alvaro Uribe, President of the Republic of Colombia is a Bilderberg member. Luke_Wilbur
This is the latest information I have received. Hi Luke, Sorry, the domain gift.com.co and the domain gift.co are two different domain names. Likewise christmas.com.co and christmas.co are two different domain names. The people who owned gift.com.co and christmas.com.co were eligible to secure the .co domain in addition to the .com.co domain. They were also allowed to keep their .com.co or to terminate it, should they choose to do so. The bottom line is, both of the .co domains for christmas and gift have been secured in the normal course of the .CO launch. It would be perfectly fine for the owners of one or both of these names to decide to drop the .com.co domain after acquiring the .co domain. I hope that helps you understand. Thanks Luke! Best regards, Lori Anne It seems like Lori will not let me do a whois on those domains? From what I see no one owns them.
