Guest Arlington-County
In an effort to save the county $125,357 Arlington County intends to quietly close the Gulf Branch Nature Center effective July 1st. Once the center is closed, the county will violate their own Resource Protected Area zoning by tearing down the newly improved facility and leaving the parking lot. On February 18, 2009, the director whose salary was $101,000 was let go. To our knowledge, Arlington County has not looked to use existing staff resources and volunteers to maintain the nature center in a more cost effective way. Say NO to Arlington County's decision and say YES to education, nature and the joy this facility has brought to countless families since 1964 by keeping the Gulf Branch Nature Center open. We, tax-paying residents of Arlington County, support the Gulf Branch Nature Center and want to keep it open and operating for our use as noted by our signatures in support of this petition. The petition will be shared with Arlington County Board Members in advance of the vote affecting the future of the Gulf Branch Nature Center.
