Hilton, the District and the IUPAT Team Up to Boost the Capital's Tourism Trade

 

October 10 Groundbreaking Event for New Downtown Embassy Suites Hotel® Marks High Point in Industry, Government and Union Alliance

 

 

 

(Washington, DC) - The International Painters and Allied Trades Industry Pension Fund, of the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades (IUPAT), and Hilton Hotels Corporation will break ground on downtown's new Embassy Suites Washington / Convention Center, D.C. on October 10, 2003 at 10:00 a.m. District government officials will join the hotel and union representatives in a ceremony celebrating a project expected to make a significant and positive economic impact on the District and its residents. Not only will hundreds of jobs be created in the construction phase of this new hotel, but also nearly 230 permanent new jobs will be created upon its completion. The guests of the Embassy Suites Washington/Convention Center, D.C. and its own operations are projected to add over $40 million to the District's economy each year.

 

 

 

The hotel is scheduled to be completed in fall 2005 and will provide 383 guest suites, 6,500 square feet of meeting space and a new restaurant next to the Washington Convention Center. Not only will hundreds of jobs be created in the construction phase of this new hotel, but also nearly 230 permanent new jobs will be created upon its completion. The guests of the Embassy Suites Washington/Convention Center, D.C. and its own operations are projected to add over $40 million to the District's economy each year.

 

 

 

The International Painters and Allied Trades Industry Pension Fund is a principal investor with the District government in this endeavor. Hilton Hotels Corporation will manage the hotel.
