Ralph Nader will bring his Independent presidential campaign to New Hampshire Friday June 6, with an 11 a.m. press conference at the Legislative Office Building, 33 N. State St. Concord, N.H.

 

Mr. Nader will address issues major party candidates have taken "off the table" that the Nader/Gonzalez campaign has put on the table, including:

 

 

a comprehensive, negotiated military and corporate withdrawal date from Iraq;

 

a single-payer, Canadian-style, private delivery, free-choice public health insurance system for all;

 

a living wage and repeal of the anti-union Taft-Hartley Act;

 

a no-nuke, solar-based energy policy supported by renewable, sustainable, energy-efficient sources;

 

a carbon tax to deter global warming;

 

 

an end to the corporate welfare and corporate crime that has resulted in millions losing pensions, savings and jobs and squandered tax dollars; and,

 

more direct democracy reflecting the preamble to our constitution which starts with "we the people," and not "we the corporations."

St. Augustine said that hope has two beautiful daughters – anger and courage.

 

The Nader/Gonzalez roadtrippers are the beautiful sons and daughters of hope – they are angry at what is happening to our country – but they are taking courageous positive action to make things better.

 

In West Virginia, Albert Marino and his team are on their way to putting Nader/Gonzalez on the ballot in the mountain state.

 

In Illinois, Joshua Tucker and his team have 25,000 signatures in hand and will bust it this month to hit our 50,000 goal by June 23. (Pictured here is Ryen Karman with a friend in Chicago)

 

Joshua wrote this to us from the road:

 

“In that moment when I stop and look into a person’s face waiting and hoping they will sign our petition, I have glimpsed not only the profound feelings of pessimism and disenfranchisement so many Americans carry about our country, but also the brave compassionate nature of so many who are signing and struggling with us for justice and for our dreams.”

Last week we put out a message calling for new roadtrippers. More than 150 of you responded. It was overwhelming. We plan to launch a road crew in the south and the mountain states here in the coming weeks. Stay tuned for more photos, videos and stories from the road.

Because of their courageous hard work – and your generous support – Nader/Gonzalez is set to have a serious presence in almost every state this election.

I agree with Nader on this one point

 

In order to be fair and effective, the only way that a meaningful price on carbon works is if there is one single globally accepted price. In other, words, if we don’t have the same price on carbon everywhere, it won’t work very well anywhere.

I wondered why Nader is running against Obama and here is his answer:

 

I think the central issue in politics in this country is the domination of corporations over our government, and over our elections, and over so many things where commercial values used to be verboten . . . I mean, they're commercializing childhood, they're commercializing universities. What's happened in the last 25 years is an overwhelming swarm of commercial supremacy, and he, Obama, has bought into that.

 

Obama's taking large money from the securities industry, the health insurance industry . . . I've gotten used to this ritual where the companies give Democrats this leeway, and say, 'Well, Obama's gotta say that stuff, but he'll come around. There's no way he'll touch Nafta or touch the WTO.

The Nader/Gonzalez Campaign today will hold a news conference on the West steps of the State Capital at 1 p.m. to announce filing for Colorado ballot status.

 

Colorado is the fourth state in which the Nader/Gonzalez Campaign has filed for a ballot line. The campaign plans to have filed in 10 states before the end of the month, and is on track to be on 40-plus ballot lines.

 

Colorado's requirements for independent presidential candidates appearing on the ballot strike a fair balance and are among the most democratic in the nation. According to the Colorado Secretary of State’s Office, a candidate is required to submit a notarized statement of intent and a none-refundable fee of $500 no later than June 17, 2008. The statement of intent must include the names of registered electors who are nominated by the campaign to be presidential electors. By contrast, in the neighboring state of Arizona with a similar population, candidates for President must turn in 21,759 valid signatures to obtain a spot on the ballot.

 

Colorado is a "swing state" that has historically favored fair access to the ballot, unlike many states that place burdensome, excessive obstacles in the way of the voters' right to a wide range of choices. For example, in 2004, Colorado voters had a diverse but not unwieldy choice between 12 candidates for president. The most candidates that have ever been on a Presidential ballot were 14 (in Iowa, Wisconsin, and Tennessee in 1992). While other states undemocratically limit the number of choices to a few or even just two, the Colorado model sets a high standard for democracy that other states should emulate.
