Hair by Hair fusions sound like a very good technique. But the thing that I'm most worried about is the fact of styling and parting your hair. What's the point of getting your hair done strand by strand if you can't part or style it. I'm personally interested in hair fusion but I not sure if it would be interested in it if I can't style it the way i want to. And if I pay good money for hair by hair fusion will it look like a weave. Because I feel that it should look like your real hair more than anything and if it doesn't than i minds well get a weave. Doesn't Beyonce and Brandy have hair fusion and if I get hair fusion well it look something like that. I saw the pictures of hair by hair fusion and I wasn't that impressed because i thought it look to much like weave.

I would like a hair specialist to answer my questions about this because I really interested in getting hair fusion. Email me at JanaeW22@aol.com to answer my questions.

Hello Janae,

I have also run across fusion that look like weaves but that is mostly because that client was not willing to pay for QUALITY hair, or the extentionist used cheap hair, the hair texture has to match yours. Alot of women admire the stars extentions (myself included) but I don't have their bank account, or the time. Please keep in mind that these girls change their hair on a constant basis (for work) and they can afford to have their fusion redone as often as posible (in many cases every week), they also use partial lace-fronts from time to time which instantly change the front of the hair (parts) it just isn't practical or cost effective for the average client to invest in that (BUT I WILL SOON CHANGE THAT), these girls are in the spotlight and under hot lights on a regular, they can't afford to sweat and allow the hair to revert on camera, a top of the line great quality lace front partial can START at $3000. and fusion extensions of the stars START at $4500. The rest of us need a good foundation to work with meaning healthy hair and good hair length, alot of my clients have chin to shoulder length hair and that allows them more freedom and choices, and for those with hair 1/4 inch or less yes they are pretty limited. Please go into this with REALISTIC expectations, most of my ladies wear fusion because it is the most natural looking and they can take care of their hair with the system in place but it has to be attached , I never let them forget it is their hair on a temporary basis only. My advice, think long and hard before you get it done because not only is it an investment but a commitment and if you have doubt don't do it.

Hi Valencia,

Unfortunantly, I live in Cincincinnati Oh, otherwise I would literally be on your doorstep. I am scheduled for my first application of the fusion technique this week, and am a little hesitant about the whole thing. It sounds extremely good on paper! The stylist I am going to has had training on the technique, and she seems to know what she's talking about, but unfortunantly not alot of people here even know what fusion is, so I don't have a vast array of stylist to chose from. She is using a mix of hair, the most expensive being Bohyme (sahalian smooth), which she says is the best hair. She also uses a wax method to apply the fusion. I guess my question is, have u had experience with this type of hair, and what do you think of the method. Also, is it normal for clients not to be comfortable having their picture taken as a point of reference for potential customers? The reason I asked is she does not have a big book of clients that shes done, saying that most of her clients don't want people to know. I do live in a fairly small city so this may be possible. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

Hello Missy,

First of all I don't care for the polywax system (but that is personal), PLEASE ask for a removal demostration before hand, you want a visual demo not just an explanation, if heat is required GET OUT OF THERE...that is too damaging to the hair and VERY hard to remove. A special chemical should be used and the fusion bond should crystalize, at that point it is easily brushed out of the hair, if your stylist refuse to do a demonstration they have something to hide, ask for refrences, I have clients who don't want their picture published, and that is their right also PICTURES CAN BE FAKED OR STOLEN, but they will gladly give me a refrence, be sure to follow up with the refrences and ask questions if they have no refrences I don't think I would trust it why be the first? ......... Bohyme hair is good I have worked with it with no problems but again I don't trust that system..............

This is going to be my first time doing hair fusion, i have very fine hair.. i wanted to know is hair fusion going to make my hair grow and make it stronger. Is this best for someone like me with fine hair. Do you know any good spots in NYC

Valencia if I may...

Hi Kijaja. First things first. Nothing is going to make your hair grow and become stronger accept for good hair care. YOUR hair care. If your hair, although fine, is healthy and strong then the extensions are a good way to allow you to not get fed up with your hair while it grows out. We tend to do more harm to our hair due to lack of patience during the growth process by trying to find something we can live with be it color, relaxers, a cut, etc. The extensions will not physically make your hair grow or make it stronger but it will make your hair tolerable. You'll like it enough to give it a break and let it grow out. But this in no way implies that it will be less work than maintaining your own hair however! Hair fusion requires work and effort on your end to care for your hair and your purchased hair. If you're looking for low maintenance while letting your hair grow out this is not it!! But it most certainly is a fun way to go about it. Hope this helps.

Hi Valencia,

I've really enjoyed reading the posts! Not to belabor a point, but I also appreciate your openess and your willingness to share technique and process. You appear to be a rose among thorns! Believe me I've run the gamut of styles and techniques over the years, some self imposed and others at the hands of "professionals". I've tried everything from Jherri Curls to Silk Locs, you name and I've tried it. I even tried fusions in the early 90's. My first mistake was that I hunted for the cheapest instead of the best (I was in college, low on cash high on ideas). It was a disaster! I must have been the "stylists" first client because she seemed unsure from the beginning. Things only got worse! You could see the waxy knots through my hair, it began to shed immediately, and the effect was thin. I was much younger then and did not have my voice, I walked out of there with empty pockets and a head full of mess! After two days of shedding I pulled those things out of my head, with a good deal of my own hair, with the use of my trusty curling iron. Years later (now five years) I decided to grow my hair out of relaxers - and everything else. I'm quite happy natural, but other than the two strand twists I've sported for the past three years there is little else I can do with my shoulder length hair. I thought I was sworn off of fussions but maybe you are the light at the end of a long dark tunnel. Question: Can I get fussions with natural hair? Is there hair that will match? My hair is thin on top by heredity. I live in Baltimore. PLEASE HELP! Thanks, and sorry for the long post.

Hello Tamara,

In the past I would have said I didn't work with natural hair because like you said it is hard to match, but that might change soon. I found a company that sells natural hair for African American women BUT I haven't worked with it yet as a matter of fact I have a client intrested in getting an afro..........I will post pictures and keep you posted..

The company: AFRO WORLD

Just keep checking back, I will let you know if or when I post the pictures, and if I hate it I will let you know that as well

Our company created our own fusion adhesive that's actually good for your hair.  Also, what causes damage (not only with fusion) but with most weaves, is that the person tries to remove them on their own.  Not that there's anything wrong with this, but the average person becomes tired and frustrated and will begin pulling and tearing their hair just to get it out.   Even with those whose hair has been damaged from the commercial fusion that most companies use.  It usually doesn't get damaged until the removal process.

You know what? I had to come back and respond to this. Yes most weave damage occurs during the removal process but what disturbs me is I know for a fact when you use quality products removal is simple and does not cause damage!!!!!!!!!!! I recieved an email a few months ago from a fellow stylist, she accused me of revealing trade secrets and setting the business back ten years TEN YEARS WOW!!!!!!!!!!! I told her that I protect women and if she is legite, she has nothing to worry about. I'm sorry but I think it should be the clients choice to remove or not to remove and of course she is going to get frustrated and tear her hair out if you don't educate her. I also make sure I show the client how to remove fusion if she requests it. To my fellow stylist, if that tiny bit of information affects your profit, you are in trouble.

Thank You

Hi Valencia

What do you mean if that tiny bit of info effect our profit...mabye it is too early as it is 630 AM.

I agree with the damage comment. When we spoke we both agreed that the damage is done when the fusion is taken out. Like the model reality show when the STylist used pliers directly on the bond...that was enough to make you bite your nails off....ugh, what was he thinking?

Hope you are well.

What I mean is I hope removals are not the way you make your money and if so you are in trouble. Asissting a client with the removal process should not be a problem, that is a tiny bit of information when you look at the grand scale of things. You bring up a great point YES I did get very angry when I saw SO CALLED professionals removing fusion bonds with pliers, IMAGINE THAT PROFESSIONALS, NOT CLIENTS and on national T.V. What is the poor client suppose to do when there are so many imposters out there? That is where all this energy should be focused getting rid of people ripping women off and ripping their hair out, NOW THAT IS CONSTRUCTIVE. I will continue to help my clients and my sisters that choose to ask me for help, it is not brain surgery.......I make my money after the application of fusion not the removal. And I have also made it clear that I have clients that fly in to get the system, I refuse to make them pay airfare just for removal unless they choose to.

But that is the way I choose to run my business and these are my clients why should anyone care but my clients, my track record speaks for itself. That is why I didn't understand why I received that email from that stylist...I don't tell anyone how to run their business, I just tell them how I run mine........I work with some of the best stylist in the country and they never have complaints, we tag team all the time that keeps me humble because they see things during the styling process that I miss, I love having a second set of eyes (I never claimed to be perfect)......as a matter of fact they encourage me to continue to educate the clients it makes their job easier when the client has healthy hair so I will say it again I donot give trade secrets, (fusion removal is not considered cosmetology practice) and those who are legite should have no worries.......

I hope this clears up that problem

I completley agree!

I feel that I should give ALL of my clients, whether they have had extensions before or not, information that could help protect them and their purchase. A good stylist SHOULD and usually WILL do this, because if they don't they are either 1. Hiding something... or 2. Unknowledgable about something.

I NEVER make blanket statements regarding results to my clients. I do not guarantee the service as everyones hair type is so different. However, I DO guarantee that my application is correct and that if you follow my instructions down to a "t" your hair will suffer no to very little damage when the extensions are removed. I will also guarantee that I will do everything in my power to give you the best service that "I" am capable of, that I will offer you conservative and logical recommendations case by case, and that I will give you facts up front. I do not claim to be the best, as there are many wonderful stylists out there, but I do STAND by being honest and determined to provide fair and quality services.

THAT is what keeps clients coming back. I feel that it is unethical to blackmail a client into returning by withholding "industry" information. The health of a clients natural hair is always of my greatest concern. If it wasn't, I'd be an awful hairdresser.

Hi Valencia,

I came across this message board while searching on the Internet for extension techniques that can last long and provide more options. I sent you an email but then I decided to post my question here as well.

I just recently relaxed my hair after going natural for almost 2 years. My hair is chin length and I wash and deep condition it at least once a week. It is healthy and I want to be able to keep it that way no matter what I do. I prefer to wear the curly/wavy styles. Can I wear these styles with relaxed hair without detection with fusion? I live in Lafayette, Louisiana (small college town) and there is not too much here in the way of hair extensions stylists. I talked to one lady I did find earlier this week and she told me she charges $3 per strand of hair for fusion extensions. She said because of the economy in this area, she charges $700 to do a full head ($350 for half a head) because she knows $3 per strand is too expensive. I want to ask you, is that about the price I should expect for fusion? It is just too expensive for me......

Because of this, I wanted to find out if you knew of anyone in the Houston area which is not so far from me or Orlando (I will be there during Thanksgiving) who uses your system and is reasonably priced. If not, do you instruct people on how to do fusion by themselves using your method, how to take care of them and how to remove them, etc. I don't know if you do or even what it would entail since I don't live anywhere near you. But any help you can offer will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Kemi.

Hi Valencia

A comment about removal...

Yes I agree abou the $ for removing. I do show people the technique and have premade bottles for the client, if they should use it. As a matter of fact, I prefer to be the one to take them out for clients and that never makes a profit really but what it does do is lets me have control over what is going on with her hair, ables me to min. damage and also lets me determine her growth and hair health. I recently just did one at no charge because I knew if she attempted it herself it would damage her hair and to me, it was like finger nails down a chalk board.

I love what I do. In the past, I myself, have paid hundreds to have my hair taken out...I have walked that mile in clients shoes. Because we both wear extensions, we can fully understand the needs of our clients. This puts us in a category of our own.

The stylist who emailed you....well Valencia, not everyone wants to see you succeed! ;) Constructive critisism that wasn't...I love constructive critisism, it ables me to offer more knowledge to my customer. I think you like have two sets of eyes...

I on the other hand am happy for your advice, love to learn about African American Hair Grade and I appreciate what you are trying to give back in the world of Extensions.

AHHH, someone PLEASE help. I am currently deployed in Iraq, untill this Jan. I have been looking on the internet for places in the Ga area to get infusion done. So far i am at no luck. I have many questions about this. my biggest concern is that i read an article saying because i am white, that this process wont last. I got my first hair extension, done in Fl. Which she did a great job untill i washed it.. I didnt know the difference between the real hair and fake, and tried to FLAT IRON, my hair(which i can tell you came out soo WRONG :) I want to get the natural hair now, but can i still pull it up in a ponytail for work? Do i not wash my hair everyday? My hair is shoulder length now, and want it down to my back. Is this the best process for me? I dont want a weave again, since after a couple of days.. i started to have bumps where she sewn it. Does anyone no anybody in the ATL. or Ga area that does this? If someone can explain this to me, i would sooo forever be grateful, Thank you.. Jenna ( sandjems@hotmail.com)

Hey ArmyChick,

First, salutes to you in Iraq from an Air Force chick back home! I commend you and wish you a safe return. Second, whomever said you cannot get fusion b/c your white has obviously never seen Paris Hilton or Gwen Stefani for that matter. Their hair doesn't grow down their back over night! Not to mention that the leading company in the industry for extensions, www.greatlengths.net, caters predominantly to those of caucasian descent. I'm not familiar with who does extension in the GA/ATL area but what I AM familiar with is that on your way HOME from Iraq it's more than likely that you'll travel through BWI (Baltimore Int'l Airport). If this is the case you should email me because what I DO know is that we have a few reputable fusion extension specialist in Maryland that may be able to help you if you're willing to make the layover in Maryland. If it's a consideration email me and let's chat. Hope to hear from you soon and remember "keep your head down" 'n "lock 'n load" if necessary! Best wishes and be safe out there.

Hello, Porsha,

I like my clients to have at least 2-3 inches, but keep in mind the shorter the hair the less styling options. They can still wear a ponytail and wear the hair up, but very limited parts, that is why I always ask if the client wears a part and I apply the fusion accordingly but I can't guarantee that the part can be changed. If applied properly it is still undetectable.

I hope this helps

Thank You for your resopnse
