The DC Improv
A stand-up veteran and a scene stealer in every motion picture he's been in, John Witherspoon makes his glorious return to the DC Improv for a big show, and a sure to be sold-out run from June 7th through 10th. A young Witherspoon started comedy and took to the road where he befriended another stand-up named David Letterman. The two plugged away with Witherspoon getting roles on "The Richard Pryor Show", "Good Times" and "What's Happening" and "The Jazz Singer"with Neil Diamond. David Letterman also did well. Witherspoon honed his stand-up but got his big chance when he was allowed to ad-lib during the filming of "Ratboy" with Sandra Locke and Robert Townsend. Townsend's next project was "Hollywood Shuffle" which had no script. Witherspoon's ability to improvise made him one of the most sought after comics in Hollywood. Witherspoon became one of the most imitated people on the planet by creating very memorable characters in "I'm Gonna Get You Sucka", "House Party", "Boomerang", "Vampire in Brooklyn" and especially as the pig feet eating, dog catching father in "Friday" with Ice Cube and Chris Tucker. In the majority of these scenes Witherspoon was allowed to create his own dialogue and movement, almost unheard of in the business. John Witherspoon also has a fine appreciation for clothes, art, history and travelling. David Letterman is also Godfather to one of Witherspoon's children. Do not miss this show people, "You must know how to coordinate." www.dcimprov.com
